At the office of the International Film Festival “Antares,” the award ceremony was held for the winner of the Screenplay Competition. The award was presented by the festival director, Andrey Afrin.
The winner in the main nomination — “Best Screenplay About a Profession” — was Alexander Teron (Russia) with the screenplay “Undelivered.” At the center of the story is the profession of a sign language interpreter.
What gives this victory special value is that Alexander Teron is an author who himself is deaf. A screenplay about the world of the deaf, about the right to be heard and understood, was created by a person who knows this topic firsthand.
“Undelivered” is the story of sign language interpreter Mira. She helps a deaf detainee who is mistakenly accused of theft, and then tries to sort out the fate of her childhood friend Timur, who was illegally placed in a psychoneurological institution. The screenplay combines a legal drama, the theme of professional ethics and language accessibility, as well as the storyline of the heroine’s relationship with her fiancé Nikita, who gradually understands: her work is not an obstacle, but a part of herself. The title “Undelivered” refers both to a message that did not arrive and to people whose voice remained unheard for a long time.
The nomination “Best Screenplay About a Profession” is the central one in the Screenplay Competition. Victory in it is an important recognition not only of the author’s literary skill but also of the significance of the theme raised in the screenplay.
The film festival congratulates Alexander Teron on his well-deserved award and wishes the new screenplay further success.
