Legendary director and producer, member of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia, Mark Gorobets, has accepted the offer to head the jury of the Short Fiction Film Competition at the III International Film Festival “Antares”.
For a festival that this year gathered 62 short films from 26 countries, the invitation of such a master is not just a status move, but a professional choice. Gorobets is the author of projects known throughout the country: from “Closed School” to “Dugout”, from “The Ship” to the recent musical melodramatic comedy “Tour with Ivanushki”. Behind him are festival awards and a multimillion‑dollar audience. But more importantly, he has long and seriously been involved in the dramaturgy of short form — and that is a direct hit on the festival's mission.
For Mark Gorobets, participating in the “Antares” film festival is an opportunity to see new cinema, discover fresh names, and support young directors. And for “Antares” — it is recognition of the highest level.
Mark Gorobets himself comments on his decision:
“Cinema is like children. I love every work in my own way, and I doubt every one in my own way. But it is the short film competition that is the place where the true cinema of the future is born. There is no budget that can hide everything — there is only an idea, sincerity, and talent. Judging such a competition is a great honour and responsibility. I am looking for that cinema about which one can say: ‘Wow!’”
The jury, which Mark Gorobets will lead, has been assembled no less meticulously than the competition programme. It features not only star names but also representatives of different professions, which is fundamentally important for “Antares”, because the festival is dedicated to the diversity of professions and the working person.
The judges will be:
João Paulo Macedo — President of the International Federation of Film Clubs, Technical Director of the Minho Film Commission and the film company Bando à Parte (Portugal);
Alexander Kisel — showrunner, director, producer, and screenwriter (Russia);
Mehul Rawal — film producer (India);
Alexey Bezyukov — Head of the Department of Labour Protection and Ecology of the FNPR Apparatus, Chief Technical Labour Inspector of the FNPR (Russia);
Olga Korneeva — Director of the Centre for Vocational Education (Russia); Natalia Yusupova — film critic, Associate Professor at Tashkent University of Information Technologies (Uzbekistan);
Marco Azunis — head of the Sardinian film club organisation (Italy).
And this is not the final list: the organisers clarify that the jury may be supplemented with new prominent names in the coming days.
Recall that this year's Short Fiction Film Competition includes 62 films from 26 countries around the world. The geography of participants is impressive: Russia, Spain, Belarus, China, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Hungary, Italy, India, France, Egypt, Kenya, Israel, Indonesia, Greece, Philippines, Canada, Chile, Argentina, Bangladesh, Lebanon, Iran, Afghanistan, Jordan, USA, United Kingdom.
